Tom
Born 1st April 1996
Tom is a 5-year-old neutered black and white cat. He's a demi-longhair; not a Persian, but a farm cat with long fluffy fur and a bushy long tail. I got Tom when he was 16 weeks old, and he has been a great comfort to me during some tough times. He gets on well with the rats, having been well-trained by my old boy Brock whilst a kitten! Unfortunately, the rats don't quite understand that Tom only wants to play, and are still wary of him.
Tom spent two years living with my ex-husband Sava, as I had to move back into the parental home for a couple of years, and my mother couldn't stand cats. Tom settled in with Sava, Jude and my two little girls, and was great friends with Mischa and Joe, Sava and Jude's two cats, and Dougal, the Westie (who misses Tom now Tom lives with Michael and I).
Tom has settled back into life with me very easily, and has taken very well to Michael - in fact, he absolutely dotes on Michael. If Michael is doing a very late or very early shift, he sleeps in the spare bedroom so he and I can disturb each other's sleep as little as possible; and often Tom will sleep on Michael's bed, snuggled up against Michael's legs. He knows that when the alarm clock goes off, it's time to get up, and he paws Michael gently to wake him. If I'm getting up later than Michael, he will then come curl up with me until my alarm goes off, and wake me up the same way! He loves to sit on the bed and watch when Michael puts the rats on the bed whilst I'm there; the rats all dive under the duvet, and Tom gently pats the top. It seems to be one game with the cat the rats don't mind!
