Seaham Environmental Association (SEA) have constructed this website to provide our community with a variety of local environmental information that may be of some interest to our town's residents and those who live elsewhere and may wish to be kept up to date with Seaham's progress and concerns.
You will discover that index pages are linked to some items for more information on that subject. A photo gallery has been added to this site, linked from each main page.

Famous quotes;
"The protection of the oceans requires both knowledge and political effort, it demands an informed public and the involvement of all spheres of civil society in working with and putting pressure on the institutions of government and the private sector."
Nelson Mandela

Seaham ~ moving fast
If we combine the last two years of the resedential development in Seaham with the next two years of the proposed retail and leisure improvements then our town will experience the biggest diverse change for over a century.
With the rising of Byron Place on our doorstep and proposals to introduce 'real' amenities at the north dock then that can only be good for employment, social inclusion, the local economy and a better quality of life for us and future generations.
SEA will engage their efforts in supporting these community benefits but at the same time, endeavour to protect our green areas and heritage.

Europe may prosecute UK over raw sewage releases
April 2006 - For the past three years, the UK has been in breach of EU law that forbids the discharge of raw sewage into the sea, including areas that effects Seaham and the remainder of the Durham coastline.
The European Commission has decided to pursue legal action against the UK Government in violation of the EU's Urban Waste Water Treatment Directive, long after receiving written warnings, by continuing to allow raw sewage to flow from four UK agglomerations.
One of those four areas is Whitburn of which SEA has always said, along with the sewage discharges from Hendon, that a large amount of this effluent ends up on Seaham's beaches, especially our only bathing beach, Seaham Hall.
