Wellington City Council has received 98 submissions on how to spend the money, funded by the Plimmer Bequest. The fund was last used for the award winning Oriental Bay beach development in 2003. The star-studded avenue, envisaged along the waterfront between Frank Kitts Park and Te Papa, would feature handprints of famous Kiwi personalities similar to the movie stars' walk of fame in Hollywood, the submitter said. West side stories - For once, Cate Blanchett looks far from elegant. With minimal make-up, a nose ring and clothes that are more Paddy's Market than Paris, she is waiting for her next scene in a trailer parked in a quiet suburban street. She's starring as a reformed junkie in Little Fish, drawn back to Sydney to work with director Rowan Woods on his first film since the chilling drama The Boys. "When I saw The Boys, I just felt like it had advanced the concept of what was an Australian film," Blanchett says. [More]

Boyd up - A few years ago in this newspaper, Billy Boyd was named Scotland's Most Eligible Bachelor. Without any disrespect to the friendly, unassuming scruff before me, it's difficult to imagine him being crowned top tartan tottie prior to the release of The Lord of the Rings. But for the Glaswegian actor, Peter Jackson's Oscar-scooping trilogy changed everything. As well as sending him to the other side of the world for 18 months, Boyd's role as Pippin the hobbit has made him a pin-up for fantasy fans around the world, whose fascination with what he eats, drinks, reads, says, wears, watches and listens to shows no sign of abating. Costs of $38,000 for LOTR model maker - Lord of the Rings model maker James Bryson, who won a landmark court case that ruled he was an employee and not a self-employed contractor, has been awarded costs of $38,000 by the Supreme Court. In June, the court confirmed he was an employee of Lord of the Rings production company Three Foot Six when he was made redundant in 2001. This cleared the way for Mr Bryson to pursue a personal grievance case against Three Foot Six. The case is to be heard by the Employment Relations Authority. [More]

Actor Wood To Launch Record Label - From IMDB: The Lord Of The Rings star Elijah Wood is such a fan of rock music he's decided to launch his own record label. Wood will open the as-yet-untitled label later this year and he's hoping to attract a wide range of acts. The 24-year-old says, "Since I was 13, I've been utterly obsessed with music. There's a wealth of amazing bands out there who have nowhere to go. I want to have the chance to release things that might not necessarily get released otherwise. My taste is pretty eclectic, so my label won't have a specific sound. Though if Radiohead are ever looking for a deal, I'd sign them any time." But, despite his willingness to help musicians secure a record deal, Wood has no plans to release his own album. He tells British magazine Q, "I don't have a great love for bands with actors in them. Me prancing around onstage? That's not going to happen." [More]
