What is Nanbudo ?
Nanbudo is a new martial art for the 21st century it is different from other martial arts as the founder is still alive and teaching.
Nanbudo was founded by Yoshino Nanbu who was born in Kobe Japan in 1943.
Yoshino Nanbu (Doshu) master 10th Dan started martial arts at the age of 5 as his father was a 5th Dan in Judo and taught at the police station and military base. It was here that Doshu Nanbu's martial arts started.
From here he studied other martial arts such as Kendo, Kobudo, Aikido, Judo, and many styles of traditional karate.
Doshu Nanbu was very sucessful in his martial arts practices and went on to captain the Japanese university karate team, he also won many awards the biggest being the Japanese Open Martial art competition with over 1.500 competitors.
From here Doshu Nanbu went to Europe and continued to impress onlookers, win awards and gather a following.
From here he created his own style called Sankukai. This was then turned into the Nanbudo which is still evolving to this day.
To this present day Yoshino Nanbu is a very well known and well respected figure in the martial arts world.
Nanbudo is not just a martial art it can be a way of life that helps us to understand both ourselves and other people.
To understand Nanbudo you must feel what it has to offer and to feel this you must witness the practice of Nanbudo

A brief History of My Nanbudo Training
I have studied the martial art of Nanbudo since 1986 in this time I have travelled and practiced Nanbudo under the Instruction of Master Nanbu in many foreign countries such as Marrocco, Switzerland, France, Spain, Budapest and Slovenia.
I train at the Hichi-Ho-Do Nanbudo club, on a Monday night we have about 20 members at the club. We train at Carluke Community Centre between 7pm and 9pm.
