The island is a high mountain mass in the Mediterranean sea, isolated from the old continent by the Tyrrhenian catalysm, flattened and restructured by layers of thick marine sediments.

It is formed by two distinct reaches of mountains separated by a central line from which originate deep valleys and strong watercourses. The slopes slowly and gradually reveal a dramatic coastline, a rugged relief of bays and shores before disappearing beneath the waves.

This mountain island is a huge and colourful mass, “sculptured by the chisel” of time, which looms up from the Latin seas.

The landscape is steep, arid with a diversity of peaks. It‘s a mixture of scenic areas : snow covered mountains, forests, scrublands, beaches and seaside resorts. It’s a never ending experience, a constant discovery trip through amazing towns and villages but also many unspoiled natural areas.

Everything is a cultural shock and mind-blowing encounter and it gives this island its distinctive appearance. By taking part in the CORSICA TOUR you will experience green and cultural tourism at its best, from the easy ride along the picturesque coastline with so many different shores, to the hard climb of the “bocche” that offers a glimpse of spectacular landscape.

1504 km (935 miles) of roads that we will allow you to climb, with a few detours from the route, between 154 and 227 mountain passes on the main itinerary. A different circuit is also available with 1318 km (819 miles) of roads to explore and 133 mountain passes.

To draw the attention of expert cyclists, the main itinerary includes an important number of mountain passes on the island.

Once more, I can only emphasize the following : everyone taking part in one of these raids must make sure beforehand to take no chances by preparing their journey properly : documents, resources, appropriate and well-maintained equipment, right level of fitness, etc.

This excursion is conceived primarily using mountain roads through a very rugged and divided relief ; it will allow you to discover lakes in a landscape where nothing will remind you of the island and the sea with its sparkling shores : the wild and arid gorges, the enclosed valleys, the immense forests of pines and chestnut trees where torrents flow through, pretty villages perched or nested in the greenery, towns dominated by imposing citadels, the freshness of streams, the perfume of the “maquis” and all sort of burning colours never mixing with each other.

To climb each “bocca” with the same renewed satisfaction, so much the games of contrasts and colours are varied so much the effort receives rich rewards, enjoy the few minutes of well deserved rest to discover unforgettable sights of a beautiful alpine landscape and views from above towards the sea where the sunset gives a spectacular picture.

The island constantly throws at you amazing images to remember forever : Castaldu, Scala di Santa Regina, Vergio,Vizzavona and many more.

So mystic and entrancing, Corsica is to be explored slowly and respectfully, you should always take into consideration the life of the locals so warm-hearted, welcoming and passionate, marked by the strong bonds to the land as well as brotherhood.

Do not embark on a journey looking for the curiosity, the unusual as you would do on an organised safari tour, the true Corsica will reveal itself little by little. One of the best moments of the cycle tour is to find out Corsican signs and details : an old and small chapel, the ruins of a bridge which have partly survived, a menhir statue at Filitosa left standing from the beginning of time, villages clinging to the hills. ….
