Regulations & Standards
The Alpine tour LEMAN-ADRIATIQUE is an excursion organised by the “Cyclo-Randonneurs Thononais”. This event is opened to all cyclists affiliated to a cycling association as well as all independent cyclists. Any person under 18 years taking part in this event must be accompanied by an adult. Family groups are welcome but only you as a parent know your children’s cycling capabilities and should choose what is an acceptable itinerary.
The tour run on a distance of 1180Km/734 miles, crossing 40 passes (16 of them at an altitude of 2000m and over) through mountain roads of the highest mountain chains in Europe : the Alps.
Thonon les Bains et Trieste are the towns of departure or arrival.
The whole itinerary is to be completed, as a recommendation, in 12 days (average 100 km/63 miles per day). The direction, the distance travelled per day, the stopover points are up to each participant. However, a 3 year deadline is granted for the completion of this tour.
With the aim of bringing closer two fields which are slightly different from one another, an option is anticipated for the contemplative cycling, with no time limit required.
The log book can be stamped at all the control points as indicated in the logbook, this is done with the use of an official ink mark applied by tradesmen, hotels, post offices, tourist offices, Town halls, Customs officials, etc. and this is optional.
However, 6 controls remain compulsory:
Pas de Morgins (customs), Passo di Santa Maria or Umbrailpass (Swiss customs), La Villa (tourist office), Passo di Giau (hotel-refuge), Forcella Longères (hotel-Auronzo refuge) and Udine.
No restriction with regard to the type of bicycle used, provided that it is propelled solely by human muscular effort. It is your responsibilty to ensure that your bicylce complies with the Road Traffic regulations of the country(ies) you are visiting. Small gear ratios are highly recommended.
The registration fee is fixed at 5 euros for members of the F.F.C.T. and members affiliated to similar associations in a foreign country; and at 6 euros for independent cyclists. The payment (French cheques in euro. international postal money orders) must be sent at the time of registration and personal details (firstname, surname, date of birth, address, association if applicable) + registration payment should reach the organiser at least 2 weeks before your journey start date. We do not accept credit cards and bank transfers as these add additional costs.

Each participant who completes the tour route will have its control card ratified and recorded. Each participant has the option of purchasing a superb tour medal, especially struck to commemorate this excursion, on payment of the sum of 22 euros. It is presented in a luxurious box. Being a free and self-organised excursion, the participants must have a valid travel insurance.
The organizers decline any responsibility in the event of accident of any nature which can occur during the journey and they cannot be held responsible for cycle breakdown. All participants must ensure they have adequate training and fitness to enable them to complete their chosen cycling tour.
The organizers reserve the right to modify the rules and regulations at any time without prior notice. The fact of taking part in the tour implies the acceptance of these rules and regulations.
